Ideas for Retail Stores
National Women's Friendship Month is a great opportunity to reach out to your female customers. Consider holding special sales, promotions, contests and giveaways to celebrate women's friendship. Below are some ideas.
Bookstores
Schedule a book reading and/or signing by a woman author. For additional sales, set up a table with various books about friendship or popular books by women authors. Order National Women's Friendship Month bookmarks to give away with minimum purchase.
Restaurants and Teas Rooms
Offer a special lunch for two. Consider featuring a woman speaker on "Women and Economic Empowerment" or another topic of interest to women. Offer "Buy One, Get One Free" on a food item; for example, "Puchase one specialty coffee and get your best woman friend's coffee for free"
Card/Specialty Shops
Set up a display table featuring cards appropriate for women friends. Hang the National Women's Friendship Month poster in your window. Give a free National Women's Friendship Month greeting card with a minimum purchase.
Home Décor Stores
Find an interior designer to lead a discussion on popular colors, fabrics, and patterns. Give a discount on home décor items to those women who attend. Display artwork featuring women artists. Hang a National Women's Friendship Month poster in your window. Offer a free National Women's Friendship Month poster with purchase.
Women's Clothing Stores
Plan a fashion show. Use the event to raise money for a local women's charity. Plan a hat show or a lecture on accessorizing. Provide hors d'oeuvres. Offer a discount on purchases.

Feature a special candle scent that symbolizes friendship. Offer specials such as a "Buy One Lotion and get your Best Friend's Lotion for Free."
Hair Salons and Day Spa
Offer a special" two for one" on makeovers, haircuts, manicures, massages, etc. Promote the purchase of gift certificates for women friends.
Kitchen Stores
Provide a cooking class or demonstration. Encourage women to bring their friends.
Florists
Offer a special on yellow roses - the flower of friendship. Give one yellow rose free with a minimum purchase.
Jewelry Stores
Display "friends" charms along with other jewelry. Design a "Take Time for Friends" poster to hang near a watch display.
Candy Shops and Food Specialty Stores
Provide samples of candy, chocolates or other food items. Offer specialty gift-wrapping for boxed candy and other items. Create an advertising space around the theme "Your best friend understands you; she also understands chocolate!"
Non-specific stores and Businesses
Provide entertainment by women musicians to highlight the celebration of National Women's Friendship Month.
Give each female customer or employee a yellow rose, the symbol of friendship.
Run a "Best Woman Friend" contest the month of September asking shoppers to nominate their friends. The winner could receive a gift certificate. Plan a special presentation to get media attention.
Plan a fundraiser for a local women's charity. Ask clients to bring a suit they no longer wear to donate to Dress for Success, a nonprofit organization that provides business attire to low-income women entering the workplace. Give a discount on a new item/service to those women who participate. Encourage women clients to bring toiletry items for a battered women's shelter. Coordinate with your local hospital to have a mobile mammogram unit visit your business. Ask those who participate to make a small donation to an organization fighting breast cancer.
